Kubini - Comics from Africa.s Exhibition
The Alliance Française of Palmerston North is proud to present Kubini – Comics from Africa.s Exhibition.
The opening night is on 1 November at 6 pm.
The exhibition will be presented in the Square Edge Gallery until 30 November.
The exhibition Kubini (‘imaginary creation’ in Swahili) takes you on a journey of discovery of comics:
- whose story takes place in Africa, on the one hand,
- made by authors from sub-Saharan Africa and the diaspora, on the other hand.
Built in a chronological way, the exhibition is organised around 3 main topics: comics of Yesterday, Today
and Tomorrow. It presents works that draw their inspiration from ancient traditions, but also from more recent cultures.
The comics exhibited are conceived and distributed in Western countries and on the African continent, thus emphasizing the global nature of
the context in which they are set.
The exhibition showcases hardcover and digital comics. They will be on display in the Square Edge Gallery during the opening night and after
that in our French community library in studio 107-108 on the first floor of Square Edge.
Video games and virtual reality experiences will be available on tablets, PlayStation, gaming computer and VR headsets in our French
community library. You are welcome to come in and enjoy.
An animation movie ‘Minga and the Broken Spoon’ from Cameroun will be shown free of charge on opening night at 7 pm and on Saturday 2, 9 and
16 November at 2 pm in the FX Theatre.

Café Scientifique 12 June 2024 - Public Science Talk Series

A free public science talk series at Globe Theatre! Talk in ENGLISH.
Dr Laureen Couzet, research scientist at AgResearch, will be talking about "Moo methane moo problems:
How cow burps impact our climate?".
Climate change is a worldwide issue affecting every country. The modifications in climate are
already visible: water level rising, major meteorological events, drought…. It was
demonstrated that among the greenhouse gases (gases involved in global warming), CO 2
but also methane (CH 4) play an important role. More recently, more effort has been put into
decreasing methane production from livestock, involving and impacting farmers. But why are
we focusing so much on methane? Where does methane come from? And can we help and
support the farmer to achieve their goal? Many scientists in the world are working on this.
During the seminar, Dr Crouzet will try to answer these questions and show examples of various
research projects that could help us mitigate global warming.

Through various concerts and encounters, he refined his style and shaped his musical identity, which is French pop folk with a
soul and rock influence.
As a committed artist, the messages he wants to convey with his songs are "ne jamais baisser les bras" (never give

Francophone Film Festival 2024 - L'Année du requin
Alliance Française Palmerston North is proud to introduce the 2024 Edition of the Francophone Film Festival in celebration
of French Language and Francophonie Week in New Zealand.
The comedy L'Année du requin (Year of the Shark) will be screened on Sunday 10 March, Monday 11 March, Tuesday 12 March at
6 pm and Wednesday 13 March at 8 pm at The Globe Theatre, 312 Main St, Palmerston North.
The screening of this comedy is a NZ PREMIERE.
The disappearance of a vacationer puts the Atlantic Coast on high alert: a shark is prowling in the French waters! Maja, a coast guard on
the verge of retirement, goes on her last mission to save the bay….
