The Alliance Française of Palmerston North is proud to present Kubini – Comics from Africa.s Exhibition.
The opening night is on 1 November at 6 pm.
The exhibition will be presented in the Square Edge Gallery until 30 November.
The exhibition Kubini (‘imaginary creation’ in Swahili) takes you on a journey of discovery of comics:
- whose story takes place in Africa, on the one hand,
- made by authors from sub-Saharan Africa and the diaspora, on the other hand.
Built in a chronological way, the exhibition is organised around 3 main topics: comics of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. It presents works that draw their inspiration from ancient traditions, but also from more recent cultures.
The comics exhibited are conceived and distributed in Western countries and on the African continent, thus emphasizing the global nature of the context in which they are set.
The exhibition showcases hardcover and digital comics. They will be on display in the Square Edge Gallery during the opening night and after that in our French community library in studio 107-108 on the first floor of Square Edge.
Video games and virtual reality experiences will be available on tablets, PlayStation, gaming computer and VR headsets in our French community library. You are welcome to come in and enjoy.
An animation movie ‘Minga and the Broken Spoon’ from Cameroun will be shown free of charge on opening night at 7 pm and on Saturday 2, 9 and
16 November at 2 pm in the FX Theatre.
